The consistent rainfall over the past few days has resulted in saturated ground and high water tables in areas around the eThekwini Municipality. The South African Weather Service has predicted that this rainfall will continue until the end of the week.
The Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre has been receiving sporadic reports of localised flooding, collapsed walls and rising streams. None of the received calls have been serious. However, should a heavy down-pour occur as warned by the Weather Service, then the present non-threatening situation could be reversed.
A close watch must be kept on rising waters in estuaries particularly those that are periodically closed.
Bathers are urged to be on the lookout and to not swim directly in front of or in the vicinity an estuary mouth.
