Uniforms & fees for the needy
Good deed: Councillor Nomvuzo Shabalala
& caring businesses hand over uniforms

A senior Councillor has roped in business people to help 150 orphans at schools across the Municipality.

Councillor Nomvuzo Shabalala, who chairs the Health, Safety and Social Services Committee, secured support from business people to pay for school fees and buy uniforms for the children. It all began when Shabalala, during visits to schools on the first day of the school year, saw the plight of the children. Speaking at a recent handover of uniforms to the children, Shabalala said, “I realised we needed to intervene.

I could not do this all alone, so I visited business people to lend a helping hand. “I am most grateful for the support from these young business people ,” she said. Sthembiso Khumalo was one of the business people who played a key role in getting others to help. The pupils were deeply touched by the donations. One of them, Linda Zulu, said, “I’m short of words of appreciation for what these people have done for us, people who they don’t even know. “I hope they continue doing good work for others.”

The initiative looks set to continue with different sponsors each year.
